Elle Payne used to be a horse riding instructor who once owned 30 chickens, 10 ducks, 6 dogs, 6 horses, 2 cats, 5 goats, 2 turtles and many many birds AND looked after a baby at the same time. Elle has been singing and loving music in her own words "for as long as she can remember". A declared feminist, Elle Payne believes that female empowerment is everything. "When we are feeling empowered we can do anything. Having the ability to stand up for yourself as a woman is a difficult thing but when we have the right tools and support, females are unstoppable. We need to be making sure as a society we are lifting our women up instead of putting them down."
Still, her father has also played an important role in her discovering her love for music. "My dad used to work in the record industry doing sales so I grew up with lots of different types of music. I started playing the flute when I was 10 until I finished high school. Then when I was 15 I got my first guitar and then I started playing saxophone too. High school is where I really turned to music as an outlet and begun finding my voice."
To Ellen Payne, in practising her creativity she finds her power. "Music has been the biggest love and passion of my life and has been something that has been my emotional outlet and my happy place. I turn to music every single day. I love such a wide variety of genres so I find I am always able to find something that fits my mood and helps me sing through the day."
This year Elle Payne has been recording her originals which has been to her the accomplishment she is most proud of. "I never thought I’d get to this point with music but I’ve been working really hard the past 2 years in particular to turn my life around and really have music be my main priority and focus." Having performed talented local musicians from Brisbane who she looks up to, she considers herself lucky. "I feel like every step I’m taking at the moment is another new accomplishment after where I’ve come from" - she celebrates her new PA and brand new guitar that enables her to fulfil her passion.
Serious art does come with serious play, the saying goes. And the plan for Elle Payne is to focus on the release of her EP by the end of 2020. "This is a first step. The ultimate dream is to be playing my originals and touring with a band behind me. There’s no greater joy for me than playing music to people who enjoy it so I want to be able to share my music with everyone."
